Very Tiny Voyage: Christkindlmarket Chicago

We had an impromptu Go Go Go editorial meeting down in the Loop earlier this week when we all met up to fight the crowds looking at ornaments, eat gourmet pretzels, and drink mulled wine from boots at the annual Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza.

The primary joys of the market are the food (primarily German, but anything that you could conceivably call “European” works) and the boots of wine. I took zero pictures of those things, but rest assured, they are both worth the trip. The rest of the market is basically a craft fair, with many of the vendors coming over from Germany just for the month.

You can tell they’re real Germans by the flags.

The most popular things for sale other than food are ornaments and other Christmas-themed tchotchkes like nutcrackers.

Do you know the story of the Christmas pickle?

Well, now you do.

The market runs until Christmas Eve, so you still have a few more days to get into the Christmas spirit with a boot and a pickle. Isn’t that how everyone does it?
