Musical Geography: Spain

In honor of the trip that I swear I’m booking any day now, please enjoy these songs about Spain.

“Te Dejo Madrid” – Shakira

It’s a catchy little song, but the video ranges from odd (Shakira running with scissors, which we all know is dangerous) to disturbing (scenes of a bullfight, which I’m not sure I’m comfortable with). So, you’ve been warned.

“Seville” – Pinback

As with most Pinback songs, I have no idea what this is about. Probably nothing to do with the actual city in Spain. But it’s a good song, and it’s my blog, so I can do what I like.

“Recuerdos de la Alhambra” – composed by Francisco Tarrega, performed by John Clarke

I get easily mesmerized by Spanish guitar music. The intricacies of this piece are a preview of the architecture I’ll see when I actually get to the palace.

“Fiesta” – the Pogues

An Irish take on Spain? It may not be traditional, but I can’t pass up the opportunity to celebrate two countries at once.

“Spanish Bombs” – the Clash

Spain isn’t all beautiful beaches and delicious food. There’s a tumultuous history in the not-so-distant past.
